Emulsifiers play a crucial role in various industries, particularly in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, by stabilizing mixtures that typically do not blend well, such as oil and water. One of the widely used emulsifiers is E435, also known as Polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan monostearate. This compound is derived from sorbitan (a sugar alcohol) and is used to improve the texture, stability, and shelf life of numerous products.

Potassium sorbate or E202 is regulated under European legislation and European Regulation 2018/1497.

Water Treatment

The pharmaceutical industry also benefits from aluminum hydroxide gel in the formulation of topical medications. It serves as a gel base for ointments and creams, providing a suitable medium for the active ingredients while enhancing their skin compatibility. Sodium bicarbonate is considered safe for consumption by regulatory agencies around the world, including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is classified as generally recognized as safe (GRAS), meaning it can be used in food products without the need for extensive pre-market testing. However, it is essential for food manufacturers to use it within recommended limits to avoid potential adverse effects.

3. Preservation Thanks to its acid-regulating properties, E575 is also employed in preserving canned vegetables and other foods. By maintaining an optimal pH, it helps inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganisms, thereby extending the product's shelf life.
